KC Design House: Case Study
A dream new build calls for a dream kitchen. In the case of West Yorkshire couple Michelle and Andy, this meant a timeless design with the style and quality to last the long haul. We discover how their In-Frame KC Exclusively Made kitchen ticked these boxes...and so much more.
Embarking on an entire new-build project, Michelle and Andy demolished an existing property on a plot of land in West Yorkshire to make way for constructing their dream home. At the heart of the plans was a large open-plan living, dining and kitchen area that they wanted to work as a functional family space but also to provide an impressive area for entertaining. Key to brief was a traditional style kitchen that would “stand the test of time”.
Having been recommended, KC Design House by a work colleague, Michelle and Andy visited the showroom and were instantly attracted to the KC Exclusively Made In-Frame display. “I loved everything about it,” recalls Michelle. “From the units and worktops to the bar and wooden breakfasting table, so we focused our kitchen design predominantly on the display. The style felt traditional, so it wouldn’t easily date but also had modern elements to it.”
With the house under construction, the KC team drew up the design based on the property plans. “We had a clear vision on how we wanted the room to flow but mainly left the kitchen design in the hands of Dominic, just making the odd tweak here and there,” says Michelle. As the open-plan room was so large, one of the couple’s main concerns was ensuring the kitchen didn’t feel at all lost. “Dominic took our stipulations onboard and incorporated them perfectly into the design with the kitchen centering around a huge island that blends into the breakfasting table.”
When it came to installation, Michelle and Andy were equally impressed with the high level of service they received. “Peter made the installation so straightforward and quickly became our favourite tradesman on site. Project manager Jason was fabulous throughout too, revisiting us several times to make sure we were happy with everything - nothing was a problem to them.”
In line with their vision, the open-plan, multi-functional space flows from one area to the next with ease. The shaker style of the KC Exclusively Made In-Frame kitchen gives the timeless appearance Michelle and Andy were keen to achieve, but contemporary elements, such as the blue-black colour of the cabinets and bespoke suspended lighting system above the breakfasting bar, give a sense of modern living. State-of-the-art appliances sourced through KC further add to the kitchen’s convenience and aesthetic appeal, from the Bora cooktop extractor system and Teppanyaki cooktop to the Wolf warming drawer and Liebherr wine cooler. As requested, the impressive kitchen design fills the space without dominating the dining and snug areas, which also house KC bespoke furniture, subtly tying everything together. “It just flows really well,” says Michelle. “The design process with KC was a real experience - like being able to choose the cut of granite for the worktops. We really couldn’t be happier with the results.”
