Modern, Sleek & Chic

A desire for high-end design and exceptional quality led West Yorkshire couple Victoria and Jason Noad to KC Design House. Here, we discover how the team helped them realise their vision for a sleek, modern kitchen while enhancing its appeal and practicality.

The Brief

Since moving into their four-bedroom West Yorkshire property in 2010, Victoria and Jason Noad have invested in a series of building and cosmetic projects, from converting the existing garage into a dining room and extending it to add a snug to updating its interiors. One key area that remained on the ‘to-do’ list was the kitchen, with Victoria keen on a high-end design with both functionality and finesse. “We wanted excellent quality and a modern, sleek design,” recalls Victoria.

The Design

Living near KC Design House and often driving past its striking premises, Victoria and Jason made it one of the first places they visited. “As soon as we walked in, we were blown away by the displays, quality and the appliances,” says Victoria. “One of the displays was exactly what we were looking for - a contemporary German design by SieMatic with sleek lines and a woodgrain finish. The cabinets were darker than we’d originally thought we’d go for, but we really liked the boldness of the look and knew we’d keep the flooring and worktops light to lift it.”

The Process

Working with KC’s managing director, Richard, and senior designer, Tony, the couple shared their ideas and must-haves whilst being open to suggestions on how the design could be elevated to better suit their property and lifestyle. “We knew we wanted a tall bank of units on one side and a big island, then KC suggested incorporating a breakfast nook and shelving area that developed into a media/entertainment and relaxation area,” says Victoria. “As we were worried about the room being dark, they were also great at advising on lighting ideas and came up with the mood lighting in the window recess and above the units, which works so well”.

Victoria and Jason also trusted KC with the installation element to keep the project running efficiently. “There was some building work, including removing an external door, and a lot of electric and plumbing work, so we went with the full KC service. Everything went as smoothly as possible, with just a slight delay on part of the furniture arriving, and the team were really clean and tidy throughout.”

The Results

Effortlessly achieving Victoria and Jason’s vision for a sleek, modern kitchen, every element of the design is slick, chic and contemporary. The deep, dramatic tone of the Siematic cabinetry and furniture is instantly impactful and beautifully balanced by the light stone flooring, gleaming white quartz worktops and highly considered lighting scheme. Further light pours in through the Crittal-style interior doors, which complement the kitchen design to a tee.

Victoria’s wish for a large central island and bank of tall units has also been realised with the addition of the breakfast nook and snug media area. The result is a series of individual, practical spaces seamlessly wrapped up into one harmonious design. “It just works so well for us,” says Victoria. “From daily family life to entertaining and cooking.”

Another area in which the couple took direction from KC was the appliances, resulting in a kitchen that has both style and substance. Its up-to-the-minute fixtures include a Quooker tap, two Bora ovens and induction cooktop with extractor system, Sub Zero fridge, freezer and a separate drinks fridge, plus two Miele dishwashers. “We ended up spending more on the appliances than we had initially planned, but it has been worth it”, says Victoria. “The double dishwasher idea was one of the best; it makes keeping the kitchen tidy so easy with no excuse for dirty dishes left on the side.”

KC Client Notes

What do you love most about the kitchen design?

Everything. We literally look forward to getting up every morning just to make a cup of tea. We spend most of our time in that area of the house now.

And what is your favourite feature of the space?

There are so many things! The self-cleaning ovens are a dream, and I love all the different areas, like the breakfast bar, breakfast nook, and media area with the sofa.

Is there anything about the space that you would change?

I’d love the kitchen to be a foot wider, but that’s not doable, so no, I wouldn’t change a thing.

What would be your top tip for someone about to embark on a kitchen project?

Trust the KC team and the process. Don’t be totally stuck on your own idea; be open to suggestions as they know what works best and how to achieve it.

Why would you recommend KC Design House?

The overall experience with KC was excellent, from their design skills to the quality of the product.
